Specifically, the organizer of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, Barracuda Music, announced on August 8 (Vietnam time) on Instagram: “After government officials confirmed the planned terrorist attack, we had no choice but to cancel 3 previously scheduled concerts for everyone’s safety.” Audiences who have purchased tickets will be automatically refunded.
Authorities also confirmed that a 19-year-old Austrian citizen was arrested along with a second suspect, who has not been identified, in connection with the pre-planned terrorist attack.
Franz Ruf, director general for public safety at the Austrian Interior Ministry, told ABC News that both suspects were radicalized by a toxic online environment.
“The suspects were focused on the Taylor Swift concert. We found out that they were acting in preparation for an attack. A clear threat was thwarted,” Mr. Ruf shared.
The attack was identified as targeting the Ernst Happel Stadium (Vienna, Austria), which was also the venue for three Taylor Swift concerts scheduled for the evenings of August 8-10. Authorities have not yet determined which concerts the terrorist attack will hit. It is reported that the 19-year-old had pledged allegiance to the leader of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) in early July.
Taylor Swift kicked off her world tour in March 2023 and will end later this year in Canada.
