The US basketball team won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics nearly a week ago, thereby defending the No. 1 position in the FIBA men’s basketball rankings.

The silver medal helped host team France climb to 4th place. Meanwhile, bronze medal winner Serbia “jumped” 2 places, ranked second and only behind the US team.

Meanwhile, the German team holds the top-3 position in the world thanks to the top-4 performance in the men’s 5×5 basketball event at the Olympics. Closing the top 5 teams on the FIBA rankings is the Canadian team.

Thanks to winning the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, Greece and Puerto Rico both moved up one spot, finishing 13th and 15th respectively.

The African team that caused a stir at the Olympics was South Sudan, which “jumped” 11 places, from 34th to 23rd in the world. Now South Sudan is the number 1 team in Africa, surpassing Ivory Coast and Angola (ranked 31st and 32nd).

In Asia, the top two spots are shared between Australia (first) and Japan (second). New Zealand is right behind in third place.

In Southeast Asia, the “big brother” of basketball in the Philippines rose 4 places to 34th place. Thailand rose 2 places to 88th place. Indonesia fell 2 places to 77th place. Malaysia fell 1 place to 105th place.

Vietnam has no change in ranking, ranking 134th. Currently, our country is behind Singapore (ranked 128) and only above Brunei (147), Cambodia (156) and Laos (not ranked).

Also in this FIBA rankings update, the team that rose the most was El Salvador, jumping 23 places to 103rd place. In the opposite direction, Guyana dropped 16 places and ranked 118th in the world.
