On August 18, former President Trump’s Truth Social social media account appeared with images of Taylor Swift and her fans that he shared, along with the comment: “I agree!”.
The problem here is that the images above were manipulated using deepfake technology, a tool used to replace one person’s portrait with another and are completely unreal, The Guardian reported on August 19.
AI-generated images shared by Mr. Trump depict several young women wearing “Swifties for Trump” shirts, as well as images showing singer Taylor Swift dressed as Uncle Sam encouraging people to vote for the Republican presidential candidate.
Each image was screenshotted from X (formerly Twitter), and was originally posted on right-wing accounts that previously posted fake news.
Singer Taylor Swift herself does not support Mr. Trump’s campaign.
Mr. Trump: Ms. Harris is an “easier” opponent than Mr. Biden
Previously, Mr. Trump also posted an AI-altered image depicting Democratic presidential candidate, US Vice President Kamala Harris, holding a rally with the hammer and sickle flag. In another post, Mr. Trump shared an AI-altered video clip depicting himself dancing with billionaire Elon Musk.
According to observers, Mr. Trump’s public use of AI-edited images and video clips could further complicate the already chaotic information ecosystem surrounding the 2024 US election.
