The song has been topping the Billboard charts since its release in April, and many people have taken Taylor Swift’s recommendation to Charlie Puth’s music. The encouragement from the “country princess” has given Charlie Puth the confidence to show his true self. Last May, the singer released Hero , a sad ballad that he had recorded for a while but was hesitant to share with fans.

“Sometimes I’m afraid of being hurt, so my music hasn’t been able to reach the dark corners of my soul. I’m trying to do that on my upcoming album, approaching my music the way Taylor Swift does. The album is like a musical diary, with things that I feel scared and hurt about singing about.”

Fans may have to wait a little longer to hear Charlie Puth’s next album, as it’s only “half-finished” at the moment. In the meantime, the singer will be regularly meeting with audiences in the “School Writing Camp” project in collaboration with Bic and the Save the Music Foundation.

The project encourages teenagers and young adults to try their hand at writing music, making beats, designing album covers and performing on stage.

“I am passionate about teaching about the arts and promoting its influence in other areas of life. I want to help people realize how important music is. Thinking back to my school days, all the difficult subjects like math, science… became easier to learn by starting with something related to the arts,” the singer said.

Giving advice to young artists, Charlie Puth said: “Never get discouraged. Don’t overthink it. You may not write a complete song today, but what you write can be the foundation for a song written in the future.”

When asked which artists he would most like to collaborate with on his new album or any other future projects, Charlie Puth said that he is usually interested in new, unknown artists. “There is no dream artist that comes to mind, because what I do is a dream,” he said. “Even the kids at the songwriting camp today, you don’t know where they’re going to be in two years. They could be creating a completely new style of music. I want to collaborate with those people.”
