With the hope of playing in the NBA for at least another 1-2 years, former Boston Celtics star Isaiah Thomas is actively trying out for clubs. His next destination is the Sacramento Kings, the team that selected Thomas in the 2011 NBA Draft.
“IT” will join three other players in trying out for the Kings. The remaining names include former Lakers player Lonnie Walker IV, former Warriors player Juan Toscano-Anderson and big man Tony Bradley.
Last season, Isaiah Thomas played for the G-League team Salt Lake City Stars (part of the Utah Jazz) before being given the opportunity to return to the NBA with the Phoenix Suns.
However, the 35-year-old defender only played a total of 6 matches in nearly 2 months, spending most of his time on the bench or playing the role of a training player for the main squad.
A month ago, Isaiah Thomas said he had offers in Europe and elsewhere. However, “IT” still aims to return to the NBA, determined to play for 1-2 more seasons before leaving the US or considering retirement.
Thomas had a tryout with the Milwaukee Bucks this past summer, but it didn’t turn out well.
Only 1m75 tall, Isaiah Thomas once made fans crazy with his “terrifying” scoring form in the Boston Celtics shirt.
He finished fifth in the MVP race, became an All-Star guard, and made the All-NBA first team. But in exchange for averaging nearly 29 points per game that season, Thomas played through pain and suffered a complicated hip injury.
Ultimately, it was this injury that caused “IT”’s form and fitness to plummet in the following seasons. He changed 8 different jerseys in less than 6 years, never playing regularly in any season.
Trying out for the Sacramento Kings, Isaiah Thomas will look for a chance to return to his old home after 13 years of fighting everywhere. Thomas was selected by the Kings with the 60th pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. The two teams were together for 3 seasons before Isaiah was transferred to the summer of 2014.
Thomas remained a favorite among Sacramento fans, receiving a warm welcome whenever he visited the Kings, known for his smile and affection for fans before and after games.
