The Golden State Warriors were one of the teams that made a lot of changes in personnel this past summer. First, they let go of Klay Thompson (to the Dallas Mavericks), then they chose to replace him with 3-point shooter Buddy Hield.
However, the Warriors also lost two important transfer targets: Lauri Markkanen (resigned with the Utah Jazz) and Paul George (moved to the Philadelphia 76ers).
So will Stephen Curry and the Golden State team keep their current roster going into the new season? Or could a trade or two still happen in the near future?
According to expert Marc Stein, the Chase Center team still has the ability to make another blockbuster transfer through trade:
“After failing to trade Paul George and Lauri Markkanen, the Golden State Warriors are planning another blockbuster to improve the quality of the squad.
To plug the gap in their lineup after saying goodbye to Stephen Curry’s longtime teammate, the Warriors signed several short-term contracts such as Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson and De’Anthony Melton.
At the same time, they still retain many picks to have an advantage in negotiating transfers. The team’s leadership believes that they are still in a good position to negotiate trades with other teams, which may be in the next few months or a year.
After Klay Thompson decided to leave, the future of the Golden State Warriors fell into an uncertain state. Although the team at Chase Center aimed to find more stars to fill the hole left by Klay, the Warriors still did not have the name they wanted.
Coupled with Stephen Curry’s brilliant performance in the recent 2024 Olympic campaign, the pressure is even heavier on Golden State’s leadership to build a strong enough squad around “head chef” Curry, taking advantage of the 35-year-old’s good form next season.
Expert Marc Stein writes more about this:
“Both pillars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, along with Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, have yet to truly face the reality that Klay Thompson is no longer in Golden State.
This will more or less cause difficulties in team cohesion. And that’s not to mention the emotional factor when Green, Curry and coach Steve Kerr all hope that Klay will not leave.
Now the Warriors hope that the fun experience of coach Steve Kerr and Stephen Curry in the US team jersey at the Olympics will help them have a good mentality, preparing for the NBA season that promises to be very difficult.
With Draymond Green joining superstar Stephen Curry and new signing Buddy Hield, Golden State still has a chance to make the Playoffs next season.
But only when one or more young players in the Warriors lineup like Podziemski or Jonathan Kuminga mature significantly will they be able to compete and have hope of going deep in the NBA’s “fiery” West.
