Stephen Curry on decision to extend with Warriors: “I’m not here to retire”

Over the weekend, Stephen Curry reached an agreement to extend his contract with the Golden State Warriors for another season, receiving a salary of 62.6 million USD. Adding 2 years to the existing contract, Curry will be “tied” to the Warriors until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Stephen Curry was selected by the Golden State Warriors in 2009. In response to this trust, the NBA’s 3-point record holder has greatly contributed to making the Warriors one of the most powerful “empires” in the league.

Throughout Curry’s 15-year career, Golden State has won the championship four times (2015, 2017, 2018, 2022), often appeared in the Playoffs and had a series of 5 consecutive years competing in the NBA Finals (from 2015 to 2019).

Stephen has also won prestigious titles, most notably becoming MVP twice, lifting the Finals MVP trophy once, and most recently “Clutch Player of The Year” for the 2023-24 season.

Last season’s Clutch Player of The Year title went to Stephen Curry after many late-game brilliance for the Golden State Warriors.

Having been with the Golden State Warriors since the early days of his career, Curry aims to retire with the Bay Area team.

This is the reason why the “chef” decided to extend his contract with the Warriors, but he did not do it just because he wanted to stay in Golden State. Moreover, Stephen Curry wants to win a championship with the team at Chase Center.

“I extended my contract not only to stay here, I also want to achieve success with the team and compete for the championship,” Stephen Curry shared.

Curry is still determined to win the championship with the Warriors

“There is no way I am giving up on my goal of winning the championship or wanting to ‘retire’. I still want to compete at the highest level because that is my personal standard.

I have faith in this team, believe that there will be necessary steps to improve the quality of the squad and have the opportunity to compete with other opponents.”

Unlike the US gold medalist, Stephen Curry’s closest teammate Klay Thompson has said goodbye to the Golden State Warriors after more than a decade of association.

The 2024-25 season will be the first time since 2011 that Curry will play without Thompson. Stephen added that he will try to focus on the team’s goals instead of letting the Klay Thompson story dominate.

I still believe in this team. The way I approach the new season will not change. The only goal is to win, ” Curry added.
